With Independence Day upon us, we are inspired by our remembrance of the Battle of Brooklyn, and the valor and courage of those who sacrificed everything in their pursuit of independence. Our challenge today – building a new community foundation for Brooklyn - clearly does not compare with the challenge of building a new nation. But, like our forebears, it is inspired by a passion for social and economic independence and justice.

This Week
On Monday, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg answered the ceremonial '100 millionth' call to the 311 Customer Service Center. As the City's single phone number for all non-emergency government information and services, 311 has received more than 100 million calls since its March 2003 inception. 311 has been utilized to hold City agencies accountable for results and has been a catalyst for the development of new, more efficient delivery of City services.

New York State Department of Banking Issues new report and recommendations for Banking Development Districts

Enclosed please find a copy of 10 Years In: A Review of the Banking Development District Program. This report is a result of a year-long review of the BDD Program and outlines important changes being made to the program. In addition to programmatic changes, in the report you will see our key findings based on our survey of BDD branches and community organizations, and two public hearings that solicited testimonies from 16 financial institutions, 11 community organizations and seven public officials.
