U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development John Fernandez today unveiled a web portal to launch the Regional Innovation Acceleration Network (RIAN), an effort in collaboration with the State Science & Technology Institute to promote organizations that are growing regional economies and creating jobs through innovation.

The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) and its partner Portland State University are encouraging broad stakeholder participation in a new online survey designed to assess the broad impacts that economic development projects have in their communities. The results from this survey will inform the development of a Triple Bottom Line online assessment tool.
On February 1, 2011, EDA published a Federal Register Notice requesting public comment on the agency’s regulations, particularly regarding ways EDA can revise the regulations to provide better economic development services. Because of strong interest in the agency's efforts to streamline and updates its regulations, EDA has extended the deadline for submitting regulatory comments.
