NSP Downpayment Assistance Now Available for StoreWorks Buyers

On Thursday, February 4, 2010, NHS Community Development Corp. (NHS CDC), a real estate subsidiary of Neighborhood Housing Services of NYC, announced a new downpayment assistance program to help buyers purchase NHS StoreWorks buildings. This program includes $1.4M in funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP). These funds were awarded to NHS CDC by the New York State Housing Finance Agency and applications are now available at:  www.nhsnyc.org/storeworks

This edition of New York by the Numbers shows that low- wage workers make up 31 percent of the city's adult workforce. The Bronx has the highest share of low-wage workers (42 percent), but Queens (with 34 percent of the adult workforce in low-wage positions) and Brooklyn (32 percent) aren't too far behind.

Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz has just rolled out a new initiative aimed at supporting local mom and pop businesses throughout the borough and BEDC is pleased to be a part of this exciting new effort. The Shop Brooklyn Campaign hopes to encourage collobaration between local community stakeholders across the borough while offering incentives for shoppers to buy in Brooklyn this holiday season. Through partnering with area businesses to offer discounts and providing a collective marketing campaign, the hope is to keep the money circulating within the community.
